UV loves the cassava bag you can burn and even eat!

“There are an estimated 270,000 tons of plastic floating on the surface of the ocean and according to a recent study authored by researchers at Plymouth University, a staggering 700 different marine species are threatened by its presence.”

Could this carrier bag be the answer to our waste crisis? In answer to the ever growing quantity of plastic that is polluting the worlds oceans, Biowear have designed a plastic free carrier bag made from cassava root and natural resins. The bag is completely biodegradable and can even be burnt and consumed by humans!

America alone produces an enormous 32 million tons of plastic waste every year, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and hardly any of it ever sees the recycling bins. Instead, roughly 8.8 million tons per year ends up in our oceans. Sadly the fact these bags cost almost double the cost of their plastic counterparts to produce means  they are yet to be adopted by consumers and businesses. Hopefully in the near future we will all be collecting our groceries in these cassava bags.
