The Base Chakra, or Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine and creates the foundation of energy in the body. It is primarily associated with our ‘need to survive’. When it is healthy it can help us to generate abundance and stability and when it is out of alignment it can create templates of greed and fear of survival.

A base chakra that is out of alignment will manifest itself as lethargy, lack of passion, disconnection from reality (with a feeling of being flighty and un-grounded), a need for constant stimulation and a doubt in your long term goals.

Physical symptoms can include lower back pain, leg pain or immune system disorders.

The sacral chakra is located in the lower body and is the centre for our passion and pleasure While the Root Chakra looks for survival, the sacral chakra seeks enjoyment. The sacral chakra is primarily associated with emotions and is the force behind our sexuality and the expression of our sexual desires.

When the sacral chakra is out of balance it can often cause dependency on either people or substances as a way to try to stay in control of emotions. A sacral chakra that is not in alignment can express itself as either overly emotional or obsessive (in the case of sex addiction) or being completely numbed to our feelings, as a method of self preservation.
It is the place that we often hold onto the energy of childhood abuse and sexual issues.

The solar plexus chakra is how we radiate our power in the world and is the expression of our will and personal power. It’s energy is strengthened when we assert ourselves and find our true self love, worth and acceptance.

Often people who grew up in childhoods with mental abuse or domineering and controlling parents close down this chakra in an attempt to artificially protect themselves. This can manifest as weak boundaries and an inability to stand up for ourselves or as an over assertion of power as a cover for low self esteem.

When the solar plexus is under active  it can show up as low self confidence, mental confusion and a difficulty In taking control of situations and one’s life in general resulting in a lack of direction, purpose or ambition. It can also hinder us from being able to make firm decisions, having self-discipline and feeling self-assured and confident in social situations. A balanced solar plexus chakra enables us to take responsibility and control of our lives, form personal opinions and beliefs and find our independence.
When the solar plexus is  over active it can lead to people taking excessive control and authority over situations and misusing their power in an attempt to regain the control of their lives they felt they never had as children.

The heart chakra or anahata is responsible for creating deep bonds with other beings, and with the self.  It enables us to experience unconditional love, compassion, and joy and is the source of deep feelings that are often difficult to find the words to express. Being in the centre of the chakra system it acts as a bridge between the lower and upper chakras and can be the centre for manifesting abundance and love into our lives. When the heart chakra is in balance we can manifest joy, abundance and feel connected to the world around us. It also allows us to come from a place of compassion without judgment.

When the heart chakra is out of alignment it can end up resulting in conditional love patterns such as co-dependence, manipulative behaviours and a lack of self worth. These types of ‘love’ are out of alignment with the nature of our true being which, is unconditional and a constant state of inner bliss.

When the heart chakra is blocked physical symptoms can manifest including issues with the heart ,lungs, chest and hands. When misaligned poor circulation, high or low blood pressure and other heart and lung conditions can result.

When your throat chakra is blocked it can seriously impact your ability to communicate effectively for fear of judgement.  It often manifests as a fear of ‘speaking our truth’ and being authentic within all our relationships.  The throat chakra is the centre for our authentic communication which is not just about talking but aslo about engagement so it can also manifest as an inability to truly listen to what others are saying. Oftentimes we are only interested in listening in order to be able to then say what we wanted to say all along, true authentic communication is about truly listening and then speaking as a response. When the throat chakra is balanced we generally don’t have a need to speak as much as we did before but what we say is ultimately more profound because it comes from true authenticity. When the throat chakra is in balance you are able to express yourself clearly and honestly in any situation with confidence and listen to those that authentically speak with you.

The third eye chakra is the gateway to our inner voice and wisdom and allows us to make choices based on our own higher guidance. When your Third Eye chakra is blocked you lose your sense of direction in life and become unable to tap into your inner wisdom, relying then on others to give you advice and guidance. Asking people for guidance often becomes even more confusing because you are told so many different things and don’t have the connection to self to know what to listen to. When we loose connection to our third eye chakra we fall out of the present moment and become unable to let go of the past and fear of what the future holds. A blocked third eye chakra can also make you very dogmatic in your beliefs, daily routine, and judgment of others.

Distilled water, diet and meditation (constant decision to try to be mindful and integrate the ego in all moments) can help unblock our third eye chakra and become attuned to our own inner compass.

The crown chakra connects us to higher states of consciousness and helps us to connect to our true universal wisdom and higher self.  It is located at the top of the head radiating upwards, hence it’s name as it is in essence a ‘spiritual crown’.

When the crown chakra is balanced it allows us to feel bliss, ecstasy and connectedness to our higher self and a higher consciousness. It liberates us from limiting patterns and allows us to see the higher perspective of our souls journey free of our ego self. It allows us to transcend our limitations and patterns to move into unity consciousness.

When the crown chakra is out of alignment it can either cause us to be cynical and disconnected to spirituality or it can cause us to live in our head and exclusively in our higher chakras, becoming disconnected to our earthly body and experience. It is important to balance all the chakras so we can bring the higher consciousness down into the body and ground it rather than live outside of our body and detach from ourselves to try to live in the higher realms. When all chakras are balanced we can ground that higher energy and knowledge into our current physical experience in the now.

The crown chakra is primarily connected to the pituitary gland, and secondarily to the pineal and the hypothalamus these work as a pair to regulate our endocrine system, which is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, among other things.
